DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the top-performing American female open-wheel racing driver. Her win in Indy Japan 300 in 2008 is her first triumph. With her parents' consent, she dropped out of highschool and moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 to pursue a career. Patrick was a competitor in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack of funds. In 2002, she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races together with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick then raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series for the subsequent two years. She placed third in the championship standings in the 2004 season. In the process, she became first woman to win a position in the series. She was named the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She made progress over the next two seasons with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and later Andretti Green Racing 2007. In 2008, Patrick followed up her Japan win to finish sixth overall in the overall drivers' standings. The following year she improved upon this and finished fifth overall in the drivers' standings. Patrick also scored in a career-high third place at Indianapolis 500, which was the most impressive performance by a female racer at the event. Patrick's overall performance dipped during the 2010 season, but she still managed to place second on the oval track. After that, she left IndyCar in 2011 to pursue stock car racing full-time.
